Last week, I had the chance to play the multiplayer beta for Elden Ring at a Sony event in Los Angeles. I like the fact that the beta provided many hours of content without having to purchase the game, though I’m going to do so since it’s on sale on PSN right now. Needless to say, I made my way through the beta quite quickly and wanted to write up a comprehensive breakdown of my experience.

The first thing you’ll notice about Elden Ring is that this is a fairly simple game. It looks familiar and it plays similar to most other fantasy role-playing games, but it’s much simpler than many other titles. Character creation is a quick affair: While the dialogues tend to use a lot of options, it’s fast and easy to put together a character. Also, once you’re done, you can carry on as you were before. You won’t lose any options that you didn’t unlock beforehand, which is a nice touch.

What’s really striking about Elden Ring’s appearance is that it seems somewhat outdated. Everything is drawn really well, but it feels like it’s been around forever and is stuck in the past. This is likely a feature of the beta; the actual game will look much nicer, though I’ll likely be surprised by just how good it looks once the final game is out.

The next thing that will catch your attention when you start playing is how well the story is told. The game has a long prologue in which you watch as your character grows and is confronted with the prologue’s main antagonist early on in the game. Afterwards, you’re thrown into the world with no explanation and are thrown into a trial that will eventually take you back to the prologue. When you beat that trial, you’re given a new trial and the same thing happens over and over again.

The prologue doesn’t take long to tell, but it’s interesting to see how the game’s lore will unfold through this whole process. The story can get a bit confusing at times, which is why it was so helpful to play in the

1. Character Creation

You can choose to develop a character as a warrior, mage, or archer. You can customise the type and items used. In addition, other features have been added, such as «Custom Creation».

The character creation screen is divided into four sections. The character’s appearance, character type, class, and class skills are displayed in the top section of the screen. The character can be given a name and class number. After that, in the middle section of the screen you can perform the character’s actions as you think fit and choose the number of stats you want to develop. The process by which you choose your stats is familiar to RPG fans.

The bottom section of the screen displays information on the character’s Combat, Magic, and Skill skills. Combat skills cover the character’s weapon skills and equipment, while Magic and Skill skills cover skills that you use in battle or while exploring the world.

2. World Exploration

You can enter a town, city, and castle, or other facilities that you can find as you explore the game’s vast world.

A small number of people live in the facilities and can be managed by selecting «Reset», «Maintenance», or «Party». People who appear in the town square can be checked via the character’s action skills.

3. Combat

In combat, after a battle is initiated, you can watch the battle scene, move, and attack. However, in battle, you can’t see your character’s body. You can move your character by left-clicking or right-clicking the mouse, while attacking by clicking the «A» key.

You can command your partner to attack the enemy by pressing a certain key while you’re in the command position. After this attack, you can add «Attack» to your partner’s action skills by pressing the «A» key. You can also switch partners by holding down the «L» key.

You can attack and block by using buttons that appear on your character’s screen. To move, you need to press a direction key («F», «D», or «L» for up, down, or left, respectively). When you press «F», your character moves forward; when you press «D», you move backward; and when you press «L», you move to the left or right. When you use these buttons, you can change your position
